about
My name is Arthur Maximian Kunze (*2003) and I'm currently studying fine arts at the Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst (HGK) FHNW in Basel.
All my life, I have been inspired by a wide variety of artists throughout history. Starting with the Old Masters such as Rubens and Raffael, my fascination extends to Rodin, Caillebotte, De Chirico and Francis Bacon, as well as Basquiat, right through to contemporary painting. References to various works from art history, as well as from film and literature, play a major role in my work.
I draw on elements and symbols of these references and relate them to personal topics without illustrating them. Interpersonal communication, political change and mass control through visibility and invisibility play a particular role in this. My wide-ranging interests feed directly into my artistic practice.
In my work, I engage deeply with the art of painting. I paint on a variety of surfaces and extend beyond the edges of the canvas, using
different materials and techniques.
